Leek Police Station

The old Police Station, Leek
(Canon EOS 60D, Sigma 17-70mm @ 20mm, 1/160s @ f/7.1)
This impressive building, built in Scottish Baronial style in 1891 by Sugden and Son, used to house the Leek Police Station. It is now used as apartments. The current police station is a pretty ordinary modern building a few streets away.

  1. Really impressive building. My first guess from a distance would not have been police station!

  2. Monica, the architect, Sugden, designed many buildings in Leek and was greatly influenced by the "Arts and Crafts" movement. William Morris, who many consider to be the most important figure in the movement, lived in Leek for some years. We have many buildings of unusual and distinctive design that date from the 2nd half of the 19th century.
